clear bracesA patient’s orthodontic needs and desires are our number one concern here at West Orthodontics. That’s why when you come to your DeWitt and Lansing, MI orthodontist for children or adult braces, we’re glad to offer a variety of different orthodontic treatments so that you’ll be able to find one that’s just perfect for you. One of these treatments that we’re truly proud of is our clear braces – a more aesthetically-pleasing way to get a great smile.

Why Choose Clear Braces?

The main draw of clear braces is that they provide a much more discreet orthodontic treatment when compared to metal braces. Unlike metal braces that utilize metal brackets, clear braces use translucent ceramic brackets that will blend into the natural tooth color of a patient’s teeth. This makes the brackets – and the braces as a whole – much more difficult to notice. One of the other great things about clear braces is that despite being a bit less durable than metal braces, it’s still essentially the exact same treatment and process. Clear braces have become an absolute favorite for adults and others who want to maintain a more professional or more aesthetically-pleasing appearance.

How to Take Care of Your Clear Braces

For clear braces to be at their most effective, you’ll need to take care of them. This may require a bit of extra work on your part, but it’ll all be worth it in the end when you see your beautiful, new smile! To take care of your clear braces and make sure that your oral hygiene is at its optimal level, we highly recommend that you follow these important rules:

  • Brush and Floss Regularly – A normal person should brush twice every day; however, when you’re wearing braces, we recommend brushing four times – once after every meal and then again before you go to bed. The reason why additional brushing is so important is because braces contain many tiny areas where food particles and bacteria can get trapped. When bacteria linger, they can cause tooth decay and other oral problems that could potentially complicate your orthodontic treatment. We recommend flossing daily as well. If you need help getting your floss around the wire of your braces, you can use a floss threader to assist in the task.
  • Stay Away from Harmful Foods – For a patient with braces, there are a few different types of foods that can be problematic if they’re consumed. These are hard foods and sticky foods. Hard foods can sometimes break the brackets or wires of your braces while sticky foods can get stuck in your braces, potentially causing the wires or brackets to come loose or even fall off. Make sure to avoid these two kinds of foods.
  • Regularly Visit Your Orthodontist and Dentist – During your orthodontic treatment, you’ll need to regularly visit your DeWitt and Lansing, MI orthodontist to make sure that your treatment is progressing as intended. You won’t want to skip out on your trips to the dentist though. Visiting the dentist while you’re undergoing orthodontic treatment is important because your dentist will be able to make sure that there aren’t any underlying problems with your teeth that could potentially derail a successful orthodontic treatment.
