Orthodontic Comfort Visits

San Anselmo & San Rafael Haney Orthodontics Team assisting a patient

Haney Orthodontics is proud to be your premier choice when you’re looking for an orthodontist in Marin County. We pride ourselves on delivering the utmost in care for all our patients. While we always hope that all our patients’ treatment processes are completed without difficulty, there’s always a possibility that your orthodontic appliances may break, loosen, or otherwise be disrupted from time to time during your treatment. We encourage you not to panic; this is perfectly normal and we’ll do anything we can to help you through it. Here are some of the most common orthodontic issues and what you should do if these may happen to you.

Common Orthodontic Issues

If you happen to have any of the following issues, please give us a call on the next business day so we can schedule an appointment and treat the problem.

Poking wire: If a wire is irritating your mouth, apply some orthodontic wax on the part of the wire that’s causing the discomfort.

Loose or broken bracket: These can generally be left in place until you’re seen in our office.

Loose bands or expanders: These can also be left in place until you’re seen in our office.

Other Concerns

If you happen to have any concerns or problems, we encourage you to give us a call. Depending on the severity of your issue, you should either call us immediately or wait to call us during business hours.

Call us during business hours if:

  • You happen to suffer from one of the aforementioned common orthodontic issues.

  • You lost your retainer. While lost retainers need to be replaced as quickly as possible, new impressions are necessary to create retainers and that can only be done during normal business hours.

  • You have any questions about your orthodontic treatment.

Call us immediately if:

  • You just suffered a traumatic injury to your teeth.

  • You’re suffering from pain and discomfort that’s lasted for over three days and you’re having trouble sleeping at night.

  • You’re unsure whether the situation qualifies as an emergency.
